I suppose this is exactly the kind of quote we should expect to see in an article about how 60% of the 8th graders at one Chicago school won't be going on to 9th grade:
"It's horrible because these kids were under the impression they were graduating, and they let them know at the last minute that they wasn't," Billingsley said.
CBS 2 Chicago - 44 Of 77 Students At Bradwell Elementary Did Not Pass Eighth Grade

Lol I know, right.
Those poor kids sure are stupid, they should be smarter.

Look on the bright side - the quote was from a parent. If it was from a teacher......... Yes, I would be very worried. :P
Side note: Gar, look up "humor" in the dictionary. dictionary.com will do. This is very funny from a grammar cop point of view.

I firmly believe that between the auto-correct function in most word processors and texting, the language, spelling and communication skills of most kids are destroyed by the time they become teenagers. Sadly, their parents are hardly any better...

Totally agree. It's done for spelling what the rear-view car camera is doing for backing up.

The school could have left the children in the dark until the fall when they would have been welcomed to Grade 9 Minus 1.
At which point many of them would have remained in the dark.

My daughter is headed to middle school in the fall. The school to which she is assigned sent home a letter, signed by the principal. The following lines were lifted from said letter.
"Teaching and learning is different these days."
"Our mission is to focus on quality teaching learning."
*facepalm*
She's 7th on a waiting list for another school, though not specifially because of these infractions.

You mean to tell me that none of the students ever recieved a report card? Maybe it was an effort to reduce the "carbon footprint" of the school. Saving the environment trumps parental notification/involvement any day of the week.

If you were to judge that quote using standard Ebonics, I think you'll find that "wasn't" is the only correct word in that sentence.

If you were to judge that quote using standard ebonics, all the rest of the quote would be wrong. You would have to use partial ebonics, standard english with ebonics thrown in only on select words, only for effect. Think gangsta-wannabes from the south..... Arkansas or Tennessee maybe.
