Grammar Cop: That Syncing Feeling

affecteffect.jpg

Defendant: Apple

Count 1: Homophone neglect, a misdemeanor.
Count 2: Incorporation of a grammatical defect into an operating system.

Report: While engaged in a routine failure to correctly sync contacts, Officer spotted the offense and quickly apprehended it with the desktop photo thing. Contacts ultimately did not sync correctly but rather duplicated themselves threefold, which is still far better than disappearing altogether.

Fine: $143, or a G4 laptop that does not overheat the crotch.

Your Honor;
Speaking 'amicus curiae', (friend of the court) we humbly call your attention to an oversight by the prosecution.

We believe the defendant should also be indicted on one count of misdemeanor Contributory Stupidity and one count of Failure to Proofread Text Prior to Public Release, a felony in all states when committed at the corporate level.

We thank this court for its consideration and offer a wish for the speedy cooling of your Honor's crotch.

From Apple yet! I'm surprised.

"...depending on the *number* of contacts..." might have been a bit nicer than "...depending on the *amount* of contacts..." as well.

OTOH, I love reading Grammar Cop, so a few good, juicy mistakes aren't necessarily a bad thing. I'm still chuckling over the "Boneless Ribs" offered by the Coney Island place...

Is this really a gramatical error or a spelling blunder?

You mean your post?
(grammatical)

Or was that intentional irony? If so, well done.

May I draw the prosecution's attention to the use of a split infinitive in the accompanying report?
While avoidance of a split infinitive are not a mandatory rule of grammar per se, in this case a better linguistic style could have been achieved by writing "While engaged in a routine failure to sync contacts correctly".
