Grammar Cop: Just Say No, Damn It

justsayno.JPG

Complaint: Misdemeanor reckless quote usage ("no"); making error permanent by engraving it and mounting it to brick wall.

Defendant: Con Edison Power Company

Report: Officer witnessed superfluous quote usage during patrol; was treated with suspicion by Con Ed employee because photographing an electrical power facility post 9/11 is creepier than it used to be.

Fine: $45

there is also no punctuation between standing and active. it should have something, no?

Yes, absolutely. In retrospect they should have been called on that too. One could argue for a colon, hyphen, smiley-face; something to separate the two.

Hi Brian. I like your weblog. Its very well written.

Shouldn't there be punctuation betwen the words "Misdemeanor" and "reckless" though?

I wouldn't think so. You would say "Felony manslaughter" or "Misdemeanor simple battery" so it seems to work. Though I think you mean something like "Misdemeanor: Reckless quote usage" which also would work.

Police reports are rife with mistakes anyway, so I can always plead I was being true to the style, I suppose.
